Description

Croatia stands out as a premier summer destination in Europe, from the vibrant cityscapes of Zagreb to the historic streets of Dubrovnik. This country boasts spectacular coastlines, the vast Blue Grotto, and one of the globe's most impressive Roman amphitheatres in Pula.

Offering everything from ancient coastal towns that have served as backdrops for "Game of Thrones" to over 20 protected natural reserves making up nearly 10% of its territory, Croatia is a treasure trove of cultural and natural wonders. Before you visit, dive into our guide highlighting Croatia's prime attractions, including a unique sea-powered organ and the famous Museum of Broken Relationships.

The Diocletian's Palace, more a fortified town than a single palace, was constructed for Emperor Diocletian upon his retirement in 305 CE following a 19-year reign. The sprawling complex, which split between luxurious living quarters for the emperor in the south and accommodations for his staff, guards, and storerooms in the north, remains a central feature of Split's Old Town. Today, visitors can explore parts of the original walls, the majestic central courtyard known as the peristyle, and a couple of the numerous granite sphinxes that once adorned the palace.
